1. A ball socket for receiving a ball stud, the ball stud having a ball portion with a center point (“C”) and a radius (“R”), the ball socket comprising:
an exterior collar having a ball stud receiving opening; a plurality of support legs depending from the exterior collar and at least partially creating a socket cup; a plurality of resilient tabs extending from the exterior collar into the ball stud receiving opening, the plurality of resilient tabs each including a ball stud contact point (“P1”), a journal contact point (“P2”) where the ball stud contacts the one of the plurality of resilient tabs when under pullout force load, and a fulcrum center point (“P3”) located where the one of the plurality of resilient tabs extends from the exterior collar; and wherein when the ball portion of the ball stud is positioned within the ball socket,
C is separated from P1 by a hypotenuse distance (“H1”) substantially equal to R;C is separated from P2 by a hypotenuse distance (“H2”) greater than or equal to H1;C is separated from P3 by a hypotenuse distance (“H3”) greater than both H1 and H2;a ratio of H1 to a horizontal distance from C to P1 (“A1”) is greater than or equal to a ratio of H3 to a horizontal distance from C to P3 (“A3”); anda ratio of H3 to A3 is greater than a ratio of H2 to a horizontal distance from C to P2 (“A2”). |
