PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small internal combustion engine having a variable compression ratio mechanism.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder block 2 having a plurality of holes 2a in which a piston is arranged in an inside thereof, a cylinder head 4 having a top surface of a combustion chamber, and a variable compression ratio mechanism relatively moving the cylinder head 4 to the cylinder block 2 so as to vary a capacity of the compression chamber. The variable compression ratio mechanism includes a motor 89, and a driving shaft 90 for transmitting power from the motor 89. The motor 89 and the driving shaft 90 are supported by the cylinder head 4 in an area between the holes 2a adjacent with each other, and are moved with the cylinder head 4. |
