PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method by which a gap is formed from the side of a sea urchin shell to vertically split the shell.SOLUTION: The invention provides a device for splitting a sea urchin from the side by forming a gap from the side of the shell and splitting the shell into the mouth side and the anus side. The device includes: a base for placing a sea urchin so that either the mouth side or the anus side of the sea urchin comes into contact therewith; a gap forming mechanism having a rotary blade for the purpose of forming a gap in the shell by applying from the side to the sea urchin placed on the base; and a pressing mechanism which has a rotary body for freely rotating around a roughly perpendicular revolving shaft and which is structured so that the rotary body is movable in the direction of the rotary blade from the position oppositely facing the rotary blade. |
