1. A thermally insulative sealed hollow panel, comprising:
a first plate disposed adjacent to a substantially parallel second plate; a plurality of helically coiled springs with axes of compression that are substantially perpendicular to the plates and disposed therebetween, said axes being substantially equidistant from each other; at least one layer of a low thermal emissivity film disposed between the plates and substantially parallel thereto, wherein the film engages the plurality of springs; and a flexible perimeter edge membrane joined to at least one perimeter edge of the first plate and at least one perimeter edge of the second plate, thereby forming a closed cavity with a pressure between 0 and 1 atm.
