[Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group V] A base 10, preferably for a tubular lamp, comprises a metal shell 11 which has an inturned flange 15 defining an aperture which is closed by a moulded insulating disc 12 in the peripheral edge of which is embedded the edge of the flange 15 which is deformed during the moulding operation. The disc preferably is plastic and is moulded with locating projections 16 and an exhaust vent 35. The contacts 13, 14 may be secured to the disc during the moulding process (see Group V), or after the assembly of the shell and disc. The initial angle of the flange to the axis of the base which is critical and should be from 30 to 60 degrees to the vertical, and the flange has indentations to lock the disc in position, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
