A drive device for a belt conveyor device is provided with: a drive pulley (33) that has the belt rear surface of the return path side of an endless belt (14) wrapped therearound; a first pulley (32) that is set to have the same length as a head pulley (12) and a tail pulley (11) and that folds the belt surface of the return path side of the endless belt (14) back toward the drive pulley (33); a second pulley (31) that is set to have the same length in the axial direction as the first pulley (32) and that folds the belt surface of the return path side of the endless belt (14) back toward the drive pulley (33); a support frame that is provided below a conveyor frame (13) and that pivotally supports both ends of the first pulley (32) and the second pulley (33); a drive motor (34) that is suspended from the bottom surface of the support frame and that comprises an output shaft that is the drive shaft of the drive pulley (33); and a take-up mechanism at which the positions of the first pulley (32) and the second pulley (33) are adjusted. This configuration makes it possible to prevent twisting movement of the endless belt.
