A method and apparatus for automatically recognizing an operating system of a host, and a USB device, which are used for an external device, wherein respective different system discriminant parameter standard values of various operating systems supported by the external device are saved in the external device, each operating system corresponds to one message sequence, the message sequence is formed by messages which should be sent by the operating system before the configuration of the external device is completed, and the system discriminant parameter standard value corresponding to each operating system is obtained by calculation according to the message sequence corresponding to the operating system. The method comprises: an acquisition step, acquiring all messages received from the current host before the configuration of the external device is completed; a calculation step, calculating an actual value of a system discriminant parameter according to the received messages; and a recognition step, determining that an operating system, the corresponding system discriminant parameter standard value of which is equal to the actual value, is an operating system of the current host. The method, apparatus and USB device simplify the recognition complexity of operating systems, and can distinguish different operating systems in terms of finer granularity. |
