The invention relates to a novel diene block copolymer with a high content of phosphorus functional groups, of which at least one of the blocks is a polymer chain comprising phosphonate and/or phosphonic pendant functional groups along the length of the chain. The invention also relates to a method for the synthesis of a novel diene copolymer with a high content of phosphorus functional groups, comprising a step involving the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of two polymers defined as being: a) a diene elastomer bearing an alkyne functional group at one or each of the chain ends; and b) a polymer comprising phosphonate and/or phosphonic pendant functional groups along the length of the chain and bearing at least one azide functional group.
