The invention described herein generally pertains to a hybrid welding system, comprising a rotor-stator assembly (230; 330) including a rotor and a stator that provides electrical energy to a welding output bus, a combustion engine (210; 310) operatively coupled with the rotor to turn the rotor of the rotor-stator assembly, and an electric motor (240; 340) operatively coupled with the rotor to turn the rotor of the rotor-stator assembly.
