INPUT DEVICE AND CHARACTER INPUT METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device that can deal with an input of a small character or conversion to a Chinese character, which are hardly dealt with by Drag&Flick, without using a multi-touch operation.SOLUTION: An input device comprises: a touch screen; a storage section; an operation discrimination section; and a small character input processing section. The touch screen is configured to: have a first area formed in a screen center; have a second area formed on one lateral end of a screen; and output information about a contact section with respect to the first and second areas. The operation discrimination section is configured to execute small character input processing when the contact section is positioned in the second area. The small character input processing section is configured to, in small character processing, display a small character list in a touch screen when the touch section moves from the second area to the first area while maintaining a contact with the touch screen; and input a small character to be selected when the contact section moves from the first area to the second area while maintaining a contact with a selection area where any of the small characters included in the small character list is selected.
