<p>We describe a simulated-environment motion tracking system, comprising: a locomotion platform on which a user is able to simulate locomotion by sliding the user's feet back and forth over a surface of the platform; at least one acoustic sensor acoustically coupled to the platform to detect an acoustic signal from the sliding of the user's feet; and a signal processor, coupled to said acoustic sensor, to process a signal from said acoustic sensor and, in response, output a motion detect signal, said motion detect signal indicating when said user is simulating locomotion and, optionally, the user's rate and/or direction of motion.</p> |
