The present invention relates to a topical composition for treating and preventing atopic dermatitis. The composition contains cordycepin (or 3′-deoxyadenosine) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, the composition inhibits the expression of thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) and proinflammatory cytokine and increases the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activatorsα(PPARα) to treat, prevent, and alleviate the atopic dermatitis.
