A treatment instrument (12) has first and second gripping bodies (52, 54). The first gripping body (52) has first and second separating bodies (72, 74). Both separating bodies (72, 74) are supported by the first gripping body (52) via a sliding mechanism (80) so as to be capable of sliding in the widthwise direction (W). Both separating bodies (72, 74) are connected by a biasing member (76). The second gripping body (54) has a pressing body (62) in the center in the widthwise direction (W). The pressing body (62) projects toward the first gripping body (52), and is heated by a heater (64). When biological tissue (T) is sandwiched between the two gripping bodies (52, 54), the pressing body (62) presses the tissue (T) toward the gap between the two separating bodies (72, 74). When doing so, the two separating bodies (72, 74) slide in directions away from one another in opposition to the biasing force of the biasing member (76). Consequently, the tissue (T) is pulled in the widthwise direction (W) by the separating bodies (72, 74), and is torn at the location contacting the pressing body (62). |
