An electric motor (12) is provided with a housing (17), a rotary shaft (16) rotatably supported in the housing (17), a rotor (13) fixed to the rotary shaft (16), and a stator (14) that is fixed to the housing (17) and is disposed so as to face the rotor (13) on the outside in the radial direction of the rotor (13). The stator (14) has a stator core (14a) formed by laminating a plurality of steel sheets (St), and the stator core (14a) is fixed to a stator mounting surface (37a) of the inner peripheral surface of the housing (17). The inner peripheral surface of the housing (17) is provided with an inner diameter extended region (37b) adjacent to the stator mounting surface (37a) at a position corresponding to an end portion of the stator core (14a). The diameter of the inner diameter extended region (37b) is greater than the diameter of the stator mounting surface (37a), and said region does not come into contact with the stator core (14a). The laminated steel sheets (St) of the stator core (14a) are thus prevented from being deformed by means of a simple structure.
