A method for monitoring the braking performance of a moving vehicle (1), including: determining a braking demand; determining a vehicle deceleration; determining a braking performance value by comparing the determined deceleration with a known reference deceleration for the vehicle when that braking demand is applied, said braking performance value being a measure of the amount by which the determined deceleration deviates from the reference deceleration; and recording the time that the braking event occurred. Apparatus for implementing the method is also disclosed. The method may also include determining the road gradient for a braking event and also a unique identifier of the vehicle. The vehicle may be a tractor unit and trailer. |
