The present invention relates to an inverter compressor for a refrigerator, and a method to control an inverter compressor for a refrigerator. The present invention provides the method to control an inverter compressor for a refrigerator comprising: a lubrication mode step of maintaining a compressor to a driving speed of a first RPM set during a set time to lubricate the compressor by lubricating oil contained in a refrigeration cycle; and a refrigerant load detection step of detecting load of the refrigerant applied to the compressor by a current value supplied to the compressor in the lubrication mode step. According to the present invention, one among a plurality of driving modes of the compressor is selected in accordance to the load detected in the refrigerant load detection step, and the compressor is driven depending on a second RPM set in accordance to the corresponding driving mode, and the driving speeds of each compressor are different from each other in the plurality of driving modes.
