A folding stretcher (see figure 10) comprises a plurality of panels (46, figure 10) interlinked by selectively foldable poles 10, each pole extending through a tube (40, figure 13) within at least one of the panels. Each pole consists of a series of tubular rods 12 that are interconnected by at least one cord or wire 14 but which can separate and fold relative to one another. When unfolded, linearly adjacent rods are fixed to one another by a non-foldable connection in the form of a spigot 16. Each spigot extends into both neighbouring ends of two adjacent rods and is further attached to the cord or wire. In use, pulling the cord or wire from one end of the unfolded pole, causes the spigot to be retracted from one of the neighbouring ends and into the other neighbouring end, thus enabling the pole to be folded. A folding stretcher wherein adjacent panels are connected by a webbing strip is also disclosed. |
