The skin component comprises a protective band 11 that is installed along at least one outer edge 6 of a skin component. The protective band 11 includes fibre reinforcement 14. The protective layer 11 is preferably placed between supporting layers 8, 9 of the skin component. The preferred protective band 11 comprises pre-stretched thermoplastic (e.g. PET, PP or PP) or steel fibres 14 oriented in the longitudinal direction of the band 11 impregnated with the thermosetting resin (e.g. polyester, epoxy resin or polyurethane) 12 that also impregnates the supporting layers 8, 9 by means of resin transfer moulding. The supporting layers 8, 9 are preferably prepregs containing carbon, glass or plant fibre reinforcement. The skin component can be used as a roof module, an engine compartment bonnet or boot lid. |
