[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A generator 56, Fig. 3, in a line identifier associated with a selecting stage, transmits a single pulse over the P-wire of a calling line A (No. 5238) to mark and register the calling number in the identifier. The Figures should be arranged as shown in Fig. 6. The P-wires are connected through cold cathode gas-discharge tubes 15, 16 to two groups of common conductors TH00-TH99 and TU00-TU99, the first group marking the thousands and hundreds digits and the second group the tens and units. The common conductors are connected through discharge tubes 23, 24, 40, 43 to groups of conductors TH0-TH9, H0-H9, T0-T9, U0-U9, marking the thousands, hundreds, tens and units digits. The common conductors TH00-TH99 are also connected to a conduotor OFF1 marking the exchange. The common conductors are common to a plurality of identifiers in the same exchange. Transfer to register. Each numerical conductor is connected to one anode of a tube 54 which fires only when potentials are applied simultaneously to both anodes. The second anode is connected directly to the pulse generator 56. A second tube 55 follows in series with a relay R8 in the register. Relay R8 extinguishes 55 and holds so long as normallyoperated relay ON remains operated. The gas discharge tubes all extinguish at the end of a pulse. Fault signals. If two register relays R0-R9 operate together, relay CK does not follow and ON releases to operate an alarm, not shown. If battery B3 fails tube 120 is extinguished and normally-operated relay A1 falls back to operate an alarm. Pulse generator. When a number of identifiers are connected to the system, the pulsing tubes 56 are arranged to operate cyclically. Firing potentials are applied to the pulsing tubes over conductors 116-119 from a thyratron ring comprising tubes 75-78. The thyratron ring is controlled by a tube 74 which generates a short pulse once in every cycle of the A.C. from the generator 59 (see Group XL (c)). Specification 548,932 is referred to.
