The present invention relates to an exercise capacity improving composition and a composition for mitigating the oxidative stress due to exercise. The compositions contain a Canavalia gladiata extract as an active ingredient. The compositions of the present invention reduce the lactate concentration in blood and glycogen consumption in muscle. The present invention enhances endurance for a swimming exercise with the Canavalia gladiata extract and by deriving the activation of fatty acid metabolism to increase the body energy. The present invention also can reduce the oxidative stress due to high-intensity exercises. The present invention provides a food composition, a functional food product, and a dietary supplement composition including the extract.
