PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the power generation performance of a fuel battery by improvement of a catalyst electrode layer.SOLUTION: The catalyst electrode layer for a fuel battery is a porous catalyst electrode layer, which comprises a catalyst electrode material including a polymer electrolyte and catalyst particles mixed therein together with the polymer electrolyte, and has one side arranged in contact with an electrolytic film of a fuel battery. With water absorbed by the polymer electrolyte, proton conducting ion-exchange groups surround volumes of liquid water to form clusters. A film-side electrolyte which is a part of the polymer electrolyte located in a region including the surface of the one side in contact with the electrolytic film 20 of the fuel battery is larger, in the size of the clusters, than a gas passage-side electrolyte which is a part of the polymer electrolyte arranged in a region including the surface of the other side. |
