652,958. Land rollers. SOC. ANON DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS ALBARET. Aug. 31, 1948, No. 22981. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1947. [Class 6(i)] Initial resistance to the movement of a motor-driven ground roller is overcome by connecting the driving-motor to the roller through epicyclic gearing carrying a counterweight 19. This, while the roller remains stationary due to sinkage in the ground, swings up and overbalances the roller about its point of contact. Abutments 21 on the fixed axle limit the rise of the weight 19. Instead of epicyclic toothed gearing, the live axle of the roller may be geared by chain and sprocket gearing to a cylindrical weight which runs in guides in the roller against spring action. A hydraulic motor within the roller may be used. Twin rollers may be actuated through differential gearing. |
