<p>A system is provided for monitoring the occupancy of a facility 1 such that emergency services can get an accurate presence list in the case of an emergency. The system comprises: a location module (12,fig.2) operable to monitor the location of one or more mobile devices 3 belonging to persons 4 and arranged to output an indication whenever any of the monitored devices cross a geofence 2 defining the boundaries of the facility 1; a register module (13,fig.2) operable, in response to the location module (12,fig.2), to generate an up to date presence list (14,fig.2) for the facility 1 based on the identity of the monitored devices 3 within the geofence 2; and an interface (15,fig.2) operable to output the presence list on demand to one of more external devices or locations in the event that an emergency such as an evacuation alarm occurs at the facility. The facility 1 may be a set of buildings, an apartment block, hotel, office or factory. The mobile devices 3 may be smartphones or tablet computers. The mobile devices 3 may be adapted to provide location notifications to the system.</p> |
