<p>A server 501 for facilitating an electronic transfer of assets from a user to a third party 503, the server comprising memory for storing a unique user identifier and details of one or more asset managers 505 that hold assets owned by the user. The unique identifier may specify a contact number or address that is unique to the user. The server being configured to receive a message from a first communication device 507 indicating the users intent to transfer assets to the third party, the server identifies the one or more asset managers that hold assets owned by the user, transmits to the first communication device a list of the identified asset managers, then receives from the first communication device the selection of an asset manager to carry out the transfer and transmits a message to the selected asset manager on behalf of the user, requesting the transfer of assets to the third party. This server may be suitable for use in transferring financial assets to a merchant third party during online commerce or non-monetary transactions such as transferring personal medical record data.
