Cable television cable tap device

A cable television (CATV) cable tap device 10 comprises a cable tap unit having a front (face plate) section 14 with electrical circuitry connected to plural tap ports 16 (see also Figure 1) and a rear (back box) section 12 connectable to a broadband network, wherein an amplifier unit 18 is disposed between the front and rear sections and is in electrical communication with both the front and rear sections. Amplifier unit 18 is a (physically) separate amplification (removable, retrofitted) module, adapted to be fitted between the tap input and output sections; it comprises one or more amplification circuits for upstream and/or downstream amplification of signals, e.g. with diplex filter 60 separating out the downstream signal for amplification. The separate amplification unit can be retrofitted to existing tap modules front, amplifier and rear sections having co-operating formations - to compensate for increased noise as bandwidth increases. An equaliser 68 may be included in the amplification circuit.
