655,632. Treating sewage. MACHALEK, J., and FIDLER, J. April 8, 1948, No. 9857. Convention date, April 11, 1947. [Class 111] Gaseous products evolved in the septic sedimentation of sludges contained in a chamber 1 are drawn off and stored in a gas holder 10, a portion of the gases being compressed by a compressor 21, and after being heated in a heat exchanger 23 being introduced into the sludge in the chamber 1 through distributers 24 located in the vicinity of the vertical central axis of the chamber at a super-atmospheric pressure sufficient to overcome the hydrostatic pressue of the sludges. The centrally located sludge becomes heated and is caused to move upwardly by the action of the rising gases and the peripherally-located sludge to move downwardly. The putrified sludge is deposited at the bottom of the container. The gases are collected and returned to the gas holder along with the gases evolved for storage and/or recirculation.
|
