A controller for a thermo-electric cooler 202; the controller comprises a current source 209 for driving the thermo-electric cooler and a plurality of voltage supply connections for providing a plurality of different voltages for driving current controlled by the current source through the thermo-electric cooler. Voltage selection circuitry, which may be a mixed signal servo loop, selects a voltage from the plurality of different voltages to apply to the thermo-electric cooler in order to minimise a potential difference across the current source which may similar to a predetermined reference voltage. The controller may also comprise current control circuitry, to control the temperature of a thermal load, using a non-linear function implemented using analogue circuitry. Additionally the controller may comprise an additional current boost connection and source to enable an increased demand to be serviced. |
