PROCESS FOR PREPARING POLYARYLENE SULFIDE HAVING LOWER CONTENT OF ISOLATED IODINE

The present invention relates to a production method for polyarylene sulfide with a reduced free iodine content. More specifically, the invention comprises the steps of: melting and mixing a composition comprising a diiodo-aromatic compound, solid sulfur, and a polymerization terminator; polymerizing polyarylene sulfide by using the molten mixture which is melted and mixed; and heat-setting the polymerized polyarylene sulfide at 100 to 260°C. The production method of the present invention can effectively reduce the content of free iodine in the polyarylene sulfide and prevent corrosion of equipment in a later process, and can also improve physical properties such as thermal stability of the produced polyarylene sulfide and can be usefully applied in industrial fields involving production of polyarylene sulfide.
