The present invention relates to ionic compositions for promoting mucosal reciliation, particularly in the sinonasal cavity. The ionic components of the composition can include potassium, calcium, rubidium, zinc, bromide, and magnesium in an isotonic solution. In other embodiments, the ionic components of the composition can include magnesium, bromide, sulfate, sodium, and chloride.

1. A method of promoting mucosal reciliation in a subject comprising:
administering an effective amount of a sterile isotonic solution to a subject in need thereof comprising:
a therapeutically effective amount of potassium ions;a therapeutically effective amount of rubidium ions;a therapeutically effective amount of calcium ions;a therapeutically effective amount of zinc ions;a therapeutically effective amount of magnesium ions;a therapeutically effective amount of bromide ions;a therapeutically effective amount of sulfate ions;a therapeutically effective amount of citric acid; anda pharmaceutically acceptable carrier; wherein the sterile isotonic solution has no sodium ions and wherein the administration of the isotonic solution causes mucosal reciliation.
