P(R1)3  (II) (wherein, R1 represents a group of the following formula (III) or a group of the following formula (IV) and three R1s may be the same or different, providing at least one of three R1s is a group of the following formula (III)) —C(R2)3  (III) (wherein, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group) ; (wherein, R3 to R7 represent each independently a hydrogen atom, optionally substituted hydrocarbon group or the like).

A method for producing an aromatic polymer comprising polycondensing an aromatic compound of the following formula (I) in the presence of a palladium complex containing a phosphine compound of the following formula (II): wherein Ar represents an aromatic ring-containing bi-functional organic group, X represents a halogen atom, a nitro group or a group of the formula: —SO3Q (wherein, Q represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group), Y represents an oxygen atom, sulfur atom, imino group, substituted imino group, ethenylene group, substituted ethenylene group or ethynylene group, and n represents 0 or 1, M represents a hydrogen atom, —B(OQ1)2, —Si(Q2)3, —Sn(Q3)3 or Z1(Z2)m (wherein, Q1 represents a hydrogen atom or hydrocarbon group and two Q1s may be the same or different and may form a ring, Q2 represents a hydrocarbon group and three Q2s may be the same or different, and Q3 represents a hydrocarbon group and three Q3s may be the same or different, Z1 represents a metal atom or metal ion, Z2 represents a counter anion, and m represents an integer of 0 or more, P(R1)3  (II) wherein R1 represents a group of the following formula (III) or a group of the following formula (IV) and three R1s may be the same or different, providing at least one of three R1s is a group of the following formula III, —C(R2)3  (III) wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, three R2s may be the same or different, two R2s may together form a ring, providing two or more R2s do not represent a hydrogen atom simultaneously, wherein R3 to R7 represent each independently a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, hydrocarbon oxy group, hydrocarbon di-substituted amino group, hydrocarbon mercapto group, hydrocarbon carbonyl group, hydrocarbon oxycarbonyl group, hydrocarbon di-substituted aminocarbonyl group or hydrocarbon sulfonyl group, at least one of R3 and R4 is not a hydrogen atom, and R3 and R5, R5 and R7, R4 and R6, and R6 and R7 may each together form a ring, wherein the palladium complex containing a phosphine compound of formula (II) and the aromatic compound of formula (V): Ara—Xa  (V) wherein Ara represents an aromatic ring containing mono-functional organic group, Xa represents a halogen atom or a group of the formula: —SO3Qa, wherein Qa represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, are reacted previously to form a compound represented by formula (VI), and then the compound represented by formula (VI) is allowed to contact the aromatic compound of formula (I), wherein R1, Ara and Xa are as defined above.
