1. An electrode comprising:
an adhesive backing layer having a front surface configured to adhere to skin of a subject and a rear surface; a plate having a rear surface coupled to the front surface of the adhesive backing layer and a front surface that includes a conductive material layer; a conductive hydrogel having a rear surface coupled to a front surface of the conductive material layer, and having a front surface configured to make electrical contact with the skin of the subject; a dielectric film border formed on the front surface of the conductive material layer and defining an area on the front surface of the conductive material layer; an electrical lead in electrical contact with the area; and an insulating film electrically isolating the area from the conductive hydrogel, wherein the insulating film includes borders adhered to the dielectric film border, all borders of the insulating film terminating within a region defined between an inner border of the dielectric film border and an outer border of the dielectric film border.
