An image forming apparatus comprising: a photosensitive member that is rotatable; a charger includes a discharge electrode, a case surrounding the discharge electrode and having an opening on the photosensitive member side, and a grid disposed in the opening and having a mesh area inside thereof, and charges the photosensitive member at a charging portion; a shutter having a sheet-shape is disposed closer to the photosensitive member than the grid, includes a fiber, and opens and closes the opening; a moving mechanism moves the shutter in a longitudinal direction of the grid to be opened and closed; an exposure device exposes the photosensitive member charged by the charger; a developing device develops an electrostatic latent image formed on the photosensitive member by the exposure device, with toner; a transfer device transfers a toner image formed on the photosensitive member by the developing device to a transfer medium at a transfer portion; a blade is disposed on a downstream side of the transfer portion and an upstream side of the charging portion with respect to a rotational direction of the photosensitive member, and comes in contact with the photosensitive member to remove the toner remaining on the photosensitive member; and first and second contact members are disposed on a downstream side of the charging portion and an upstream side of a contacting portion of the blade with respect to the rotational direction of the photosensitive member, and come in contact with areas of the photosensitive member corresponding to both longitudinal ends of the mesh area, and the first and second contact members contact an upstream side of the contacting portion of the blade and the photosensitive member with respect to the rotating direction of the photosensitive member.
