[Class 124] [Also in Group XXII] An apparatus for reproducing sculptures on a variable scale comprises a pair of horizontal bars swingably and adjustably mounted on a pair of feet; a pair of rotatable and longitudinally adjustable plates mounted on the bars; a vertical bearing support at one end of the bars; a fork rotatably mounted in the bearing at right angles to the support; a four pointed swivel joint connected to the fork; a second fork connected to the swivel joint; a pair of parallel rods, carrying a pair of sliding blocks, connected at right angles to the second fork; two parallel rods pivotally connected each to one sliding block at one end and at the other pivotally and axially displaceably connected to an operating lever pivoted at one end about the second fork at the junction of the slide block mounting rods, the angular displacement of the operating lever moving the blocks by an amount proportional to the length of the operating rods; and a vertical support on the bars at the end remote from the swivel joint. As shown, a pair of work carrying discs 6, adjustable lengthwise on a pair of parallel bars 1 which are angularly adjustable on feet 2, are rotated by a hand wheel 18. A block 21 mounted at one end of the bars 1 carries a vertical bar 22 on which is mounted a bearing 23 for a fork 25. A four pointed swivel joint 26 has one diametrically opposite pair of points engaging the fork 25 and the other pair engaging a second fork 27 carrying a pair of parallel rods 28, extending parallel to the bars 1, and has also pivoted to it an operating lever 35. A pair of sliding blocks 29 and 30, the former carrying a cutting tool 31 and the latter a contour follower 32 are mounted on the rods 28 and have pivoted to them parallel rods 33 and 34, the rod 34 being pivoted to the lever 35 at 44 and the rod 33, which is extendible, being axially slidable on the lever 35 at 43. A support 40, fixed to the bars 1 at the end opposite to the swivel joint acts as a guide for the free ends of the rods 28. For the copying of solid sculptures the rods 28 are used in the position shown in Fig. 2 and for copying reliefs in the position shown in Fig. 1; in the latter case the tool and contour follower may be moved automatically, Fig. 5 (not shown). |
