PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a game media counter eliminating, as much as possible, breakage factors such as overheat of drive means generated by detecting a foreign material or a like and repeating retry processing. ! SOLUTION: When there is no count after retry processing in response to a detection of an auto sensor at a termination of the count, a counter including an auto start function suppresses the auto start function in error processing (S16 and S17) regardless of the detection of the auto sensor. Consequently, when the retry processing is performed by detecting an abnormal material or the like by the auto sensor, a detection by the auto sensor is not performed, so that the processing is terminated, and again, the auto start is performed by detecting the foreign material or the like.
