The method for evaluation of the vigilance of a vehicle driver uses a statistical distribution over a quantity (N, N1, N2) of errors (PE(n)) in a parameter representative of the control of the vehicle by the driver. Each error belongs to a class (c) within a set of classes comprising a mean class ((Nc+1)/2). The method comprises steps consisting of: - increasing (112) a probability density (P(c), P1(c), P2(c)) associated with a class (c) which includes (111, 151) a parameter error (PE(n)) appearing (101) at a current time; - reducing (126, 134, 136, 128, 144, 146) said probability density associated with class (c) at a later time after having observed (100) said quantity (N, N1, N2) of parameter errors (PE(n)).
