A heat-moisture exchange (HME) device comprises an inlet 21 at one end, an outlet 22 at an opposite end and a HME element 24 located between the inlet 21 and outlet 22. In a preferable embodiment the HME element is configured such that the entire surface of at least one of its end faces 25, 26 preferably both is located radially outwardly of the respective inlet 21 and/or outlet 22. The HME device may also provide a flow path which may be provided by a tubular projection 46, 37- extending into the HME element 24 beyond its end face 25, 26 and through a part of its thickness, so that air flowing along the flow path has to reverse direction to flow over the end face of the HME element. This ensures that air flow is more evenly distributed over the end face and through the bulk of the HME element 24. The HME element 24 may further be formed from a coil of corrugated paper treated with a hygroscopic substance. |
