PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell which can adequately and reliably cause reaction of oxygen entering the fuel cell from the outside, has a simple structure and effectively suppresses deterioration of an electrolyte membrane.SOLUTION: A fuel cell 10 is formed by stacking an electrolyte membrane-electrode structure 12, an anode side separator 14 and a cathode side separator 16. The fuel cell 10 has an oxidant gas inlet communication hole 18a, a fuel gas inlet communication hole 20a, an oxidant gas outlet communication hole 18b and a fuel gas outlet communication hole 20b, which pass through the fuel cell 10 in stacking direction. A fuel gas passage 24 is formed in the anode side separator 14, and an oxidant gas passage 28 is formed in the cathode side separator 16. A projecting portion 12b of the electrolyte membrane-electrode structure 12 is provided with an oxidation catalyst layer 46 formed by applying an oxidation catalyst on an outer surface of a gas diffusion layer 40a. |
