A stairwell lift 1 installed in a stairwell 100 includes at least two supporting columns 11, a passenger space 12, at least two sliding portions 13, and at least one driving mechanism 14. Each supporting column 11 has a top portion 111 and a bottom portion 112, wherein the bottom portions 112 are oppositely disposed and securely fixed to a space in or nearby the stairwell 100. The passenger space 12 is between the two supporting columns 11. Each sliding portion 13 is respectively fixed on a side of the passenger space 12 and fit over each supporting column 11. The driving mechanism 14 is above the top of two supporting columns 11 for driving the passenger space 12 along the supporting columns 11. The driving mechanism 14 may comprise a winch and base and may drive steel cables or chains. The passenger space may comprise a seat section 121 and a foot board 122. The stairwell lift 1 may have such a shape that when descended the seat section 121 and foot board 122 are respectively resting on the steps of the stairwell. There may be at least two arresters 15 respectively mounted to the sliding portions 13 and at least a safety actuator 16 mounted to the seat section 121 and in operative coupling with the arresters 15. The stairwell lift may automatically rise after being in the lowered position for a predetermined amount of time. The passenger space 12 may be enclosed (figure 4). |
