The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for recognizing a vehicle. The present invention is provided to increase a recognition rate of external vehicles in front of a vehicle on road in case of rain. The method for recognizing a vehicle comprises the steps of: extracting edges of objects included in a road image from road images obtained by a camera; extracting at least one edge having a shape of an external vehicle from the extracted edges as an external vehicle candidate; and recognizing a predetermined area among edge areas having the shape of the external vehicle candidate as a final external vehicle if the vehicle is driven in rainy weather. |
