A tool for a vacuum cleaner comprises a nozzle 101 and a bristle assembly 103. An elongate suction opening (115, fig 15) is provided in a base 103 of the nozzle 101 . The bristle assembly 103 is mounted within the nozzle 101 and comprises a carrier (130, fig 19) to which a strip of bristles 131 is attached. The carrier (130, fig 19) pivots or flexes relative to the nozzle101 and comprises a pair of wings 146, 147 located on opposite sides of the bristles 131. The bristles 131 protrude beyond the carrier by a length that is no greater than the width of each wing 146, 147. The suction opening (115, fig 15) is delimited along its length by a first edge 118 and a second edge 119, with the wings 146, 147 extending outwardly from the bristles 131 towards the first edge 118 and second edge 119 so that when the carrier (130, fig 19) pivots or flexes one of the wings 146 contacts the first edge 118 as the tool is swept forwards and the other of the wings 147 contacts the second edge 119 as the tool is swept backwards. |
