A seat which may be adjusted between an upright position and a reclined position, comprises at each side members 1 forming the back and the front legs and members 3 forming the rear legs, the members 1, 3 being articulated at 4. On the members 1 are mounted at each side a slotted guide plate 2 and also pivoted to the members 1 at 9 is a plate 8 the upward extension of which forms a lever handle and the lower extension being formed with notches 21. The forward ends of the legs 3 are articulated to members 6, carrying the seat, the members 6 being connected at the rear by a rod and projecting at both ends and engaging in the slots of the guide plate 2. The extensions of the rod 7 are also adapted in successive notches of the plate 8 the notches, being formed as shown in Fig. 2 to prevent undesirable disengagement.
