A method of casting a concrete material, the material also including metal fibres. A mould volume 12 has an open section 14 and a closed section 16. The closed section has a horizontal top shutter portion 18 defining an upper extent of the closed volume, and the open section has an opening 20. The concrete material is introduced into the mould volume such that the material is displaced vertically within the open section and laterally within the closed section to define an upper surface against the top shutter. The fibres may be mutually aligned by the lateral displacement of the concrete material within the closed section. The concrete may be self-compacting. The horizontal top shutter portion may be ventilated through a permeable lining or removable plug, and the inside surface of the shutter may have a coating to reduce surface tension. The concrete material may be introduced in a single casting operation. |
