摘要 A flexible polyurethane foam with improved resistance to discoloration from oxidation is disclosed. Such discoloration may be due to exposure to oxides of nitrogen, for example, the oxides commonly found in burnt gas fumes. The foam may be used for applications such as intimate apparel and other consumer products that need extended term color stability. The foam composition includes high levels of reactive and non-reactive phosphite esters that improve color stability without disadvantage to the foam's physical and aesthetic properties during and after production.

A method of reducing discoloration from oxides in a polyurethane foam, the method comprising: forming a mixture from a polyether polyol, an aromatic diisocyanate, a blowing agent, a surfactant, and a catalyst; adding to the mixture at least about 5 parts per hundred polyol tris(dipropyleneglycol)phosphite and at least about 5 parts per hundred polyol poly(dipropyleneglycol)phenyl phosphite to form a foam formulation; wherein a total weight percentage of the tris(dipropyleneglycol)phosphite and poly(dipropyleneglycol)phenyl phosphite combined in the foam formulation is up to about 15%; reacting the foam formulation to form an open cell polyurethane foam; wherein the polyurethane foam is sufficiently open cell so as to have an air permeability of about 1.5 cfm; and wherein the polyurethane foam is resistant to discoloration from oxides so as to measure at least 3 on a grey scale as defined by ISO 105-A03 when tested for discoloration in accordance with AATCC 23-2005.
