A yellow ink composition includes a particulate pigment; a dispersant; a water-soluble solvent; and water, wherein the ink composition satisfies the following relationship:

wherein X represents a maximum absorbance of the ink composition at a wavelength of from 400 to 450 nm; and Y represents an absorbance thereof at a wavelength of 500 nm.

a particulate pigment; a dispersant; a water-soluble solvent; and water, wherein the dispersant has the following formula (2):
A1-O—B1  (2) wherein A1 represents a branchable alkyl group having 8 to 12 carbon atoms, a β naphthyl group, a styrenated phenol group or a distyrenated phenol group; B1 represents COOM1, SO3M1 or PO3M12; and M1 represents Na, K, ammonium, tetramethylammonium or ethanolamine, wherein the ink composition satisfies the following relationship:
0.02≦Y/X≦0.07  (1) wherein X represents a maximum absorbance of the ink composition at a wavelength of from 400 to 450 nm; and Y represents an absorbance thereof at a wavelength of 500 nm.
