1. A method of dust control on a saline dry lakebed with at least one wetting basin comprising the steps of:
measuring lakebed infiltration rates within the at least one wetting basin to determine if the infiltration rate is below two inches per year, thus, suitable for creating and maintaining a brine membrane; creating one or more inner berms on the at least one wetting basin to minimize the depth of brine solution necessary for treatment; if the infiltration rate is below two inches,
applying to the at least one wetting basin a first brine solution defined as having average weight percentages for soluble constituents of: between 15% and 65% Na2CO3, between 1% and 40% NaHCO3, between 2% and 70% NaCl, and between 5% and 70% Na2SO4 until a brine membrane, defined as horizontal layers of precipitated salts of Na2SO4, Na2CO3, and NaHCO3 that are level across the majority of the wetting basin and that remain bathed in said first brine solution that protects the salt mass from desiccation, is formed; if the infiltration rate is above said two inches,
apply additions of said first brine solution until a brine membrane is formed; and maintaining the brine membrane by addition of brine solution as necessary. |
