In a mist producer used for medical purposes in which a liquid is atomized in a gas means are provided for stopping the operation of the atomizer whenever the patient is not inhaling. As shown, liquid in reservoir 2 is atomized by a stream of compressed air from the jet nozzle 5 passing over the nozzle 4 of the tube 3. Com-, position of the aerosols obtained is varied by knob adjusted deflector 7. Additional air may be supplied to the apparatus through the valve 10. Control of the compressed air to the jet 5 is by a diaphragm operated valve 19. The diaphragm 12 is located at one side of the producer casing such that it divides a space within the casing into two parts-part 14 open to the atmosphere and part 16 in communication via the conduit 17 with the tube 9 which leads to the patient's face mask &c. Whenever the patient is inhaling suction is created in 16 and on the diaphragm moving inwardly the lever 18 depresses the valve 19 thus allowing compressed air to flow via inlet 20 and passage 21 to a chamber 28 formed in the atomizer supporting block. This block is removable. The jet nozzle 5 is connected to chamber 28 via tube 6. The atomizing process may also, or alternatively, be controlled by regulation of the flow of the atomizing liquid to the nozzle 4. Provision such as push button means 13a is provided for operating the valve 19 when the suctional effect of the patient's inhalation is not sufficient to cause inward movement of the diaphragm. |
