The present invention relates to a method for controlling a hybrid electric vehicle using driving tendency of a driver. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for controlling a hybrid electric vehicle using driving tendency may comprise steps of: determining a driving tendency level based on data to determine driving tendency of a driver; determining target engine torque using an engine torque map based on a vehicle speed and required torque; determining whether the driving tendency level corresponds to a predetermined level; determining whether the required torque is higher than torque corresponding to an optimal driving point when the driving tendency level corresponds to the predetermined level; and correcting the target engine torque when the required torque is higher than the torque corresponding to an optimal driving point of the engine.
