<p>The invention relates to a system for the anaerobic treatment of wastewater. In one embodiment, the invention provides an anaerobic treatment system of the type comprising first and second stages, wherein the system includes pH controlled addition of base to said second stage. The invention also provides a method of controlling the pH of an anaerobic treatment system of the foregoing type. In the method, the pH of the second stage is controlled by sensing the pH of the second stage contents and adding base to influent waste from the first stage in sufficient quantities to maintain the second stage pH within the desired operating range.</p> |
