PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the discharge pressure of a compressor using the power generated in an expansion chamber by expansion of material gas, and reduce cooling power required for a cooler.SOLUTION: A natural gas liquefaction system 1 comprises: a first expansion chamber 3 for generating power by expanding natural gas obtained in a pressurized state as material gas; first coolers 11 and 12 for cooling the material gas decompressed by being expanded by the first expansion chamber 3; a distillation apparatus 15 for reducing or removing a heavy component in the material gas by distilling the material gas cooled by the first coolers 11 and 12; a first compressor 4 for compressing the material gas of which the heavy component is reduced or removed in the distillation apparatus 15 by using the power generated in the first expansion chamber 3; and a liquefier 21 for liquefying the material gas compressed by the first compressor 4 by implementing heat exchange with refrigerant.
