A method for production of a disinfectant with a concentration of active chlorine in the range from 0 to 6000 ppm from a flow through diaphragm electrolyser, wherein the method comprises: a) cooling of a cathode by means of a water flow in a volume required both for creating a flow in an anode compartment and for creating a flow for an anolyte dilution in an upper cover of the electrolyser when producing the disinfectant with the active chlorine concentration of up to 6000 ppm, whereas the flow rate through the anode compartment is not less than 3.3 litres per hour per 100 W/h drawn in the anode compartment, while the flow rate through the cathode compartment is not less than 0.13 litres per hour per 100 W/h drawn in the cathode compartment.
